UNDERSTANDING THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILD

1. Answer the following question in about 600 words:
Discuss various views on human development. Explain
the physical development of children that occur during the elementary level.
Suggest any five activities that a teacher can use to promote the physical
development of children.
OR
Explain the meaning of action research? Discuss the
steps of action research with an example from your classroom experience.
2. Answer the following question in about 600 words:
Describe Piaget's stages in cognitive development of
children with suitable examples.
OR
Explain the characteristics of children with special needs
(any three). Discuss the role of an elementary school teacher in handling these
children with special needs in a classroom.
3. Answer any
four of the following in about 150 words
each :
(a) Define the term 'child' based on the criterion of
age.
(b) Illustrate with examples the different kinds of
play children engage in.
(c) How can a teacher handle a child who bullies other
children in a classroom?
(d) How do different forms of parenting styles affect
the development of a child?
(e) Write a short note on childhood in different cultures.
(f) Differentiate between social exclusion and marginalization
with examples particularly in the context of school environment.
4. Answer
the following in about 600 words:
As an elementary school teacher you are aware of the
friendship groups in your classroom. Make a social profiling of children in a
friendship group on the criteria given below and sum up the understandings that
you will develop from this profiling:
(a) Gender
(b) Class and Caste
(c) Social network in the classroom
